Bernheim Forest

Bernheim Forest is one of our nearby treasures. It is 14,378 acres of  hiking trails, variety of species of trees, plants and animals, lakes, streams, ponds. The perfect place to be one with nature. It was created by a German immigrant, Isaac Bernheim,  who came as a peddler and made it big in the whiskey business. He created Bernheim Forest as an Arboretum and Research Forest. It was his gift to Kentucky for his financial success in our bourbon industry. Louisville owes a debt of gratitude to Bernheim as well because his business success as a distiller and distributor reinforced the city as a major center of bourbon commerce in Kentucky.
