A Tattooed Art Project: A Love Letter To The World

I do not know if it is the blue grass or something in the water, but Kentucky grows not only bountiful harvests, fine thoroughbreds, and smooth bourbon… we also bloom talented and fascinating artists, writers, and musicians. Kentucky is rich in creative minds and passionate hearts making our state a magical land of possibilities.

In Lexington, we have the fabulous duo of Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova who have begun a new project after the success of their Lexington Tattoo Project. This new endeavor is called Love Letter To The World. It will use the poem by Kentucky’s 2013 Poet Laureate, 2014 NAACP Image Award winner, and self-identified Affrilichian Poet, Frank X Walker. The poem, Love Letta To De Worl, will be converted into tattoos including words and designs that anyone in the world can download off the site and have it inked by a professional tattoo artist in their area. The creators of this project hope to “create a global community through the words of the poem.”

That is just the beginning. A delegation, if you will, is being sent to The Burning Man in Nevada. The Kentucky Fried Camp will host 15 Love Letter To The World tattoos. The project not only includes poetry and tattoos, but also story telling, music, spoken word, and global relationships. The masterminds behind this venture will commission musicians world wide to compose original scores for the words of Frank X Walker’s poem. They intend to captivate attention to the  global issues of our modern lives; especially those of world peace, environment, and sustainability.

The beauty of this project is the fact that people across the world will hear Frank X Walker’s reading of his evocative poem. As they listen, a word or two, or maybe a phrase will speak to their innate psyche. Those words with their corresponding designs will be found on the website, printed, and indelibly inked on their body. To further the unification of our precious and fragile world, we will all upload to the website photos of our flesh inscribed with the tattoos. What happens next is the nectar of the fruit; we see who else in this wide world were touched by the same words. We become melded in a global friendship… which is only the beginning.
